Department of Electronic Engineering

Introduction

Modern society is turning into a ubiquitous information society in the 21st century.

Electronic engineering is a principal part in the ubiquitous information technology (IT). Thus, the major focuses on producing professional engineers who can adapt well to the rapidly changing global environment with good creativity and leadership. To meet the educational goal, the major is trying to help the students obtain a broad understanding of the key concepts for the basic and advanced fields such as semiconductor devices, sensors and the system, analog and digital circuits, integrated circuits and systems, designs for integrated circuits, microwave engineering and communication, signal processing and communication systems, image processing, optoelectronic devices and the system, control and automation, computer architecture and programming, and other IT-related subjects. The major is also equipped with sufficient research facilities and experimental equipments to improve the quality of education and research. The harmonious education system, which consists of experiments and their simulations with software and theoretical lectures, produces very competitive and creative engineers.

History

1967: Established Department of Electronic Engineering
January 8, 1973: Authorized to establish a graduate program (Master’s degree)
December 5, 1979: Authorized to establish a doctoral course
July 28, 1992: Established Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering through the establishment approval of Graduate School of Industry Science and Technology
October 18, 1995: Established a cooperation-graduate course (Department of Applied Electronic Engineering, Department of Sensor and System, and Department of Multimedia and Communication)
February 28, 1996: Unification of the Department of Electronic Engineering and the Department of Electrical Engineering into School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering
August 31, 1999: BK21 program for Industrial Upbringing of Local Universities approved by the Ministry of Education
October 14, 1999: Unification of School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and School of Computer Science into School of Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Information Communication
February 26, 2001: Selected as the best school in the Electrical, Electronic, and Communication fields by the Ministry of Education
June 16, 2004: Appointed as a core university in the NURI program authorized by the Ministry of Education
October 11, 2005: Reorganized School of Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, and Information Communication as an Independent School
February 12, 2007: Appointed a Core NEXT program (for the enhancement of education competition in the IT field)

Job Fields

After graduating, students can have an engineer position in Electronics, Computer Science, and Information Communication-related companies such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, LG Philips Display, Hyundai Electronics, SK Telecom, and other industries. Graduates may also find employment as a research engineer in public or national research institutes such as ETRI and KAITECH. Furthermore, students may also go on to graduate schools or go study abroad. Most of all, many opportunities are given to all students in this major in order to help students find careers in whatever they desire.
