“Have you ever heard the word of Summer Gimjang?”

YU (President CHOI Oe-chool) held an event to share Summer Gimjang kimchi with local neighbors. On the 18th, YU held an event of “Sharing kimchi of love” together with TheKN Co., Ltd which is operating the University Student Restaurant.

The event was managed by YU Social Contribution Support Team; more than 80 persons including YU staff and Student Council students participated in the event and made 350 heads of kimchi in YU Student Restaurant. Foreign students studying in YU also made kimchi and had the opportunity to experience Korean culture and practice neighbor love. Especially, KIM Tae-woo, former 44th Chairman of YU Student Council and current Daegu-si Councilor participated in and supported the event.

YU has been holding the event of Sharing Kimchi of Love in every winter. It is a social contribution program to practice sharing with local vulnerable neighbors. This year, the event was held in summer vacation considering that the opportunity to share Gimjang kimchi with neighbors is relatively less in summer compared with winter.

The kimchi made in the event was transferred to local vulnerable neighbors through Gyeongsan-si Voluntary Service Center.

KIM Jae-choon (Vice-President of YU Education Innovation), Director of YU Social Contribution Team, prepared the kimchi sharing event on that day and commented, “This year, YU planned and is implementing various programs to enhance the sense of community of students as social constituents and basic knowledge as global citizens with installation “Social Contribution and Service” as essential common liberal arts. The kimchi sharing event was prepared to enhance the sense of contribution and service activities for the community. I hope that the students may get an opportunity to practice neighbor love by making kimchi and sharing it with neighbors instead of summer leaves.”
