Three times of performances in YU Cheonma Art Center for two days on September 30th and October 1st

YU (President CHOI Oe-chool) put Puccini's Opera “La Bohème” on the stage at 75th anniversary.


The opera performances were managed by YU College of Music and were made three times in Grand Hall of YU Cheonma Art Center at 7:30 pm on September 30th (Friday) and at 3:00 and 7:30 pm on October 1st (Saturday).

“La Bohème” has the most lyricism among Puccini’s 12 works. The opera consists of four acts showing the love and tragedy between four Bohemians consisting of a painter, novelist, musician, philosopher, and their lovers living a rough and free life in Latin, France.


Professors of College of Music, graduates working in Korea or foreign countries, and students gathered for the performances in order to commemorate the 75th anniversary of YU. YU’s 75th Anniversary Festival Orchestra (Concertmaster: Professor KIM Yi-jeong of Instrumental Music), College of Music Choir (Conductor: Professor HAN Yong-hee of Vocal Music), and Cheonma Youth Squire (Conductor: Alumnus KWON Yu-jin) showed magnificent and beautiful performances under conduction by LEE Il-ku (Maestro from YU) and PYO Hyeon-jin, Korea's best director, took in charge of direction.

The male lead Rodolfo's aria “Your Admiration,” the female protagonist Mimi's aria “My name is Mimi,” “Musetta's Waltz,” and the arias having familiar beautiful melodies were presented to the audience through beautiful stage direction and comprehensive audiovisual art.

In this opera, professors KIM Jeong-ah and LEE Hyun, both of the top vocalists in Korea, from YU Department of Vocal Music played the roles of Mimi and poet Rodolfo, respectively, professor LEE Dong-hwan and soprano LEE Gyeong-jin played the roles of painter Marcello and Musetta, respectively, and baritone SEO Jeong-hyeok and bassist YOON Seong-woo played the roles of musician Shonar, Philosopher Colline, respectively.


Dean CHOI Yoon-hee of YU College of Music in charge of art director said, “The best work was produced by the loyalty and pride of the alma master in the process to produce the work by seniors and juniors of YU for the university anniversary opera.”

The performances were shown in Grand Hall of YU Cheonma Art Center three times by professor team on September 30th and by two student teams on October 1st. The performances were supported by YU, YU Medical Center, and Alumni Association of YU College of Music.
