Since the Museum of Yeungnam University opened, it has accumulated academic achievement through active participations in a great number of excavations and scientific research. The museum collects valuable cultural properties in Yeungnam Province and publishes scientific research reports and technical reports. As research activities, there are excavations of ancient tomb no. 1 at Gyeonamni, Changryung, which initiated other excavations, in 1968, ancient tombs (no. 1, 2, and 3) at Buksa-dong, Jain, ancient tomb no. 110 at Whangnam-dong, King Michu's mausoleum and other tombs, ancient tombs at Inwhang-dong, Gyungju, ancient tombs at Guam-dong, Chilgok, ancient tombs at Imdang, Gyungsan, ancient tombs sunk in the water due to the construction of Hapcheon Dam, ancient tombs and settlement at Siji area in Daegu. In addition, the museum has carried out a large number of surface surveys including lithic and rock art sites at Yangjeon-dong, Goryung, Palgu Mountain Fortress, Nakdong River and Yongseong area, Gyungbuk area, and Jungwon culture area. Specially, the museum undertakes annual ethnographic research to reconstruct traditional culture of villages disappearing. This research is initiated in Gyungsan and Cheongdo area and will be expanded to other area, as well.
