2026학년도 외국인유학생과 함께하는 관례(冠禮)·계례(笄禮) 행사에 여러분을 초청합니다.

우리 대학교 박물관은 2026년 5월 18일 성년의 날을 맞아, 외국인유학생과 국내학생을 대상으로 의인정사에서 전통 관례와 계례를 올리는 행사(2026년 5월 11일)를 열어 축하의 의미를 더하고자 합니다. 

예부터 우리나라는 남자아이가 20세가 되면 사랑방에서 학식이 있고 덕이 있는 큰손님(빈)을 모시고 관례를 올려주었습니다. 처음으로 관을 씌우고 어른의 옷을 입혀 개인적으로는 독립된 인격체가 되고 사회적으로는 새로운 구성원으로 영입되었다는 점을 인식시킴으로써 자부심과 책임감을 갖게 하려는 것이었습니다.

여자아이에게는 혼인하기로 허락한 뒤 덕이 있는 부인을 큰손님으로 모셔서 계례를 올려주었습니다. 

지금도 문중을 중심으로 이어져 오고 있는 전통 관례와 계례를 학생들에게 직접 참여함으로써 우리의 전통의례와 문화를 알리고 이해를 돕는 기회를 제공하자는 취지에 여러분의 많은 관심을 부탁드리며, 아울러 여러분을 정중히 초청합니다.

Invitation to the 2026 Traditional “Coming-of-Age Ceremonies”

(“Gwanrye” and “Gyerye”) with International Students

To commemorate Coming-of-Age Day on May 18, 2026, Yeungnam University Museum is pleased to invite both international and domestic students to a traditional coming-of-age ceremony (“Gwanrye” for men and “Gyerye” for women) to be held at “Uiinjeongsa” in the folk Village on May 11, 2026.

Traditionally in Korea, when a boy turned twenty, a respected elder with knowledge and virtue (called a "Bin") was invited to conduct the Gwanrye ceremony in the Sarangbang (men’s quarters). During the ceremony, the young man would don a traditional topknot cap and adult attire for the first time, signifying his new role as an independent individual and a responsible member of society.

For girls, following parental approval for marriage, a virtuous woman would be invited as the Bin to preside over the Gyerye ceremony.

This event, rooted in the ancestral traditions still upheld by family clans, offers students the opportunity to directly experience and gain a deeper understanding of Korea’s traditional rites and culture.
