Dear new students and distinguished guests!
On behalf of Yeungnam University, I heartily welcome the inaugural intake of freshmen to the Park Chung Hee School of Policy and Saemaul and warmly congratulate for your admission to the School. Yeungnam University is pleased and proud to greet all the new students from Bangladesh, Bolivia, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Rwanda, Tanzania, the United States of America and Korea as part of our YU family. I also want to express my heartfelt gratitude for the participation of distinguished guests in this meaningful ceremony including Vice Mayor for Administrative affairs of Daegu, Mr. KIM, Yeon Su, Vice Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do, Lee, In-sun; President of Korea Saemaul Undong Center, Mr. Lee, Jai Chang; the Deputy Minister of the Korea Forest Service, Dr. Kim, Nam Gyun; and President of Korea Green Promotion Agency, Jang, Chan-sik.

Ever since its establishment in 1947, Yeungnam University has flourished as a leading university of the nation at the forefront of the industrialization, democratization, and advancement of Korea. This flourishing was prominently advanced by the Second Founding of the University in 1967 that was led by President Park Chung Hee and geared toward producing future pillars of the nation for its revitalization. Yeungnam University, on the basis of this competency, has been implementing daring changes, leading the new paradigm of university education in 21st century, under the audacious vision, the ''YU Glocal Initiative'', established in 2009.

Yeungnam University is actively tackling global issues such as climate change, poverty and unemployment by establishing paradigms for Y-type human resource education, convergence of research frontiers, in-outbound internationalization and knowledge management and by leading the new knowledge industry with the continuous production of valuable knowledge and Y-type human resources.
In line with such efforts, Yeungnam University established the PSPS after three years of preparation and we have gathered here for the inauguration ceremony today, another milestone in Yeungnam’s history. Korea was one of the world’s poorest nations only 50 years ago with its people suffering from dire poverty. President Park Chung Hee led the modernization of our nation disseminating the will of self-reliance and the power of execution among all Koreans through elaborate economic development policies, national management strategy and the Saemaul Undong Movement of diligence, self-help and cooperation. The excellence of President Park Chung Hee''s leadership was his future-oriented VIP (Vision, Innovation, Passion) leadership. His leadership has been globally recognized for leading the paradigm shift from an agricultural society to an industrial one, from pre-modern to modern by maximizing the potential energy of Koreans and this recognition gives his leadership even greater significance.
The PSPS aims to lead toward co-prosperity of humanity and eradication of global poverty by way of ''glocalizing'' the Saemaul Undong Movement and the successful economic development policy of Korea, a nation which developed from the status of the poorest nation in the world to become one of the planet’s top 10 economic powerhouses in just a half century.
Our glocalization drive is not about a mere introduction of the Korean experience of economic development but it focuses on suggesting a sustainable Self Development Assistance (SDA) model, a new paradigm of the ODA (Official Development Assistance) model, that improves the competency of self-reliance in developing nations by simultaneously pursuing globalization and localization of Korea''s development experiences. Self Development Assistance is about helping you stand on your own feet by sharing the method of fishing with you rather than simply catching fish for you.
Dear students of PSPS!
You have made a truly excellent choice. You will create a new future with Yeungnam University, leading globalization and creation of a knowledge-based society. The top class faculty members and the educational environment here at Yeungnam University will provide you with the maximum convenience for your academic research and studies. Yeungnam University is located at the center of Korean culture and the nation’s major industrial complex; with the birthplace of the Saemaul Undong Movement just a stone''s throw away from its campus. Promoting field trips that take advantage of this geographic location, the PSPS will place much emphasis on a "living education" that makes you feel in your heart what you understand in your mind. The PSPS programs, through their approach based on glocalism and comparative methodology, will ensure that you learn how to effectively utilize your knowledge back in your homeland. Working closely with Korean businesses, national and local governments, the UN and the World Bank, the PSPS will leap toward a world-leading school that turns out leaders of global poverty eradication.

Yeungnam University hopes that you continue to develop yourselves into global professionals who contribute to the betterment of human life and the vanquishment of absolute poverty in developing countries. We hope that you will develop yourselves into the type of creative global leaders who practice love for humanity upholding the principles of mutual cooperation, coexistence and co-prosperity.
I hope you all continue to blaze a glorious trail over the course of your stay at Yeungnam and beyond. I also heartily desire that we will work together for a beautiful world and a cooperative global community. Thank you.

영남대학교는 그 일환으로 지난 3년간의 준비기간을 거쳐 박정희 스쿨을 설립하였고, 오늘 역사적인 제 1기 입학식을 갖게 되었습니다. 한국은 불과 50년 전 세계 최빈국이었고, 국민들은 빈곤의 늪에서 고통 받고 있었습니다. 박정희 대통령은 치밀한 경제개발정책 및 국가경영전략과 근면, 자조, 협동의 새마을 운동을 통하여 자립의지와 실천력을 모든 국민에게 확산시키면서 조국근대화를 이끌었습니다. 박정희리더십의 위대성은 VIP(Vision, Innovation, Passion) 리더십, 즉 미래지향적 리더십으로 잠재된 국민적 에너지를 극대화시켜 농경사회에서 산업사회로, 전근대사회에서 근대사회로 패러다임 전환을 이끌었다는 점입니다.
박정희 스쿨은 반세기만에 세계 최빈국에서 세계 10대 경제대국으로 성장한 대한민국의 성공적인 경제개발정책과 새마을운동의 글로컬화(Glocalization)를 통하여 인류공영 및 세계빈곤퇴치에 앞장서고자 합니다. 글로컬화는 한국의 경제개발경험을 단순히 소개하는 것이 아니라, 개발경험의 세계화와 현지화를 동시에 실현하여 개도국의 자립역량을 제고시킴으로써 자기개발원조(SDA: Self Development Assistance)라는 새로운 패러다임의 공적개발원조(ODA) 모델을 제시하는 것입니다. SDA는 고기를 잡아주는 것이 아니라, 고기를 잡는 방법을 공유함으로써 스스로 일어나게 하는 것입니다.

여러분은 참으로 훌륭한 선택을 하셨습니다. 오늘부터 여러분은 세계화와 지식기반사회를 선도하는 영남대학교와 함께 새로운 미래를 창조하게 될 것입니다. 영남대학교의 수준 높은 교수진과 교육환경은 여러분의 학문탐구에 조금도 부족함이 없도록 최대한의 편의를 제공할 것입니다. 영남대학교는 지리적으로 한국 문화와 한국의 주요산업단지의 중심에 위치하고 있고 새마을 운동 발상지를 지척에 두고 있습니다. 이러한 지리적 이점을 최대한 활용하여 현장교육(field trip)을 강화하여 머리로 이해하고 가슴으로 느낄 수 있는 살아있는 교육을 강화할 것입니다. 그리고 글로컬리즘과 비교방법론적 접근을 통하여 여러분이 배운 지식이 여러분 모국에 실효성 있게 활용될 수 있도록 할 것입니다. 박정희 스쿨은 앞으로 한국의 기업, 정부, 지방정부, UN, World Bank 등과 함께 하면서 세계빈곤퇴치의 지도자를 양성하는 세계최고의 명문으로 도약할 것입니다.
