Message from the President
총장 인사말
Yeungnam University launched its audacious vision ‘YU Glocal Initiative’ in 2009 and has been making ground breaking strides since then with this new university paradigm for the 21st century.
Under this new paradigm for convergence research and cultivating Y-type talents, YU will advance and lead the knowledge economy and contribute to solving global issues of highest concern such as climate change, poverty and unemployment. In realization of our vision, we are opening the Park Chung Hee School of Policy and Saemaul (PSPS) today.
Only 50 years ago, Korea was one of the poorest nations in the world with its people suffering in dire poverty. Inspiring the nation toward self-reliance and self-actualization, the then President Park Chung Hee awakened the slumbering energy of Korea under the slogan “We’ll make it if we try, we can do it, let’s improve our lives.” With this spirit, President Park led the nation into an unprecedented era of modernization, instilling the attitudes of diligence, self-help and cooperation.
His leadership can be seen in the future-oriented characteristics of his ‘VIP (Vision, Innovation and Passion) Leadership’, that focused on, and maximized, the nation’s potential, leading the transition from an agrarian to an industrialized modern society.
The PSPS intends to lead the campaign to eradicate global poverty and pursue the co-prosperity of humanity by way of ‘glocalizing’ the Saemaul Undong (New Community Movement). The PSPS will also utilize the experience gained from the success story of Korea’s unprecedented economic transformation in only a few decades from one of the world’s poorest countries into an industrial powerhouse taking a lead role globally. In fostering the self-reliant capacity of developing countries, our glocalization drive will contribute to the co-prosperity of humanity by
simultaneously pursuing the globalization and localization of Korea’s development experiences based on a comparative methodology, going beyond a mere superficial treatment of issues. The focus will be on sustainable Self-Development Assistance (SDA), which constitutes a new model of Official Development Assistance (ODA ).
The PSPS would like to reach out to government employees, professors, students, community leaders and politicians who eagerly desire the modernization of their home country. It also welcomes the interest and participation of leaders and experts from international organizations and developed countries who are committed to co-prosperity. Together let’s make this global village a beautiful, happy place to live in.

위대한 출발 : 왜 박정희 스쿨인가
영남대학교는 2009년부터 담대한 비전‘YU Glocal Initiative’를 제시하고 21세기 새로운 대학패러다임을 선도하고 있습니다. 융·복합연구패러다임, Y형인재 육성패러다임을 구축하고, 가치 있는 지식과 Y형인재를 끊임없이 생산하여 지식산업을 선도하면서, 기후변화, 빈곤과 실업 등 인류적 과제해결에 적극적으로 나서고자 합니다. 우리는 오늘 그 일환으로 박정희 스쿨을 설립합니다.
한국은 불과 50년전 세계 최빈국이었고, 국민들은 빈곤의 늪에서 고통 받고 있었습니다. 박정희 대통령은 당시‘하면된다, 할 수 있다, 우리도 한번 잘 살아보세’라는 자립의지와 실천력을 모든 국민에게 확산시키면서, 근면·자조·협동 정신의 함양을 통하여 잠자던 국민적 에너지를 일깨워 조국근대화로 승화시켰습니다. 박정희 리더십의 위대성은 VIP (Vision, Innovation, Passion) 리더십 즉 미래지향적 리더십으로 잠재된 국민적 에너지를 극대화시켜 농경사회에서 산업사회로, 전근대사회에서 근대사회로 패러다임 전환을 이끌었다는 점입니다.
박정희 스쿨은 불과 50년만에 세계 최빈국에서 세계 10대 경제대국으로 성장한 한국의 성공적인 경제개발정책과 새마을 운동의 글로컬화를 통하여 인류공영 및 세계빈곤퇴치에 앞장서고자 합니다. 글로컬화(Glocalization)는 한국의 경제개발경험을 단순히 소개하는 것이 아니라, 비교방법론에 기초하여 개발경험의 세계화와 현지화를 동시에 실현하여 개도국의 자립역량을 제고시킴으로써 자기개발원조(SDA : Self Development Assistance)라는 새로운 패러다임의 공적개발원조(ODA) 모델을 제시하는 것입니다.
박정희 스쿨은 조국근대화를 간절히 소망하는 개도국의 공무원, 교수, 학생, 사회지도자, 정치인, 그리고 인류공영을 염원하는 국제기구 및 선진국 지도자, 전문가들과 함께 할 것입니다. 우리 모두 아름다운 세계,
행복한 지구촌을 함께 가꾸어 갑시다.
