Alumni’s power in politician society again after 14 members in 14th National Assembly

YU Alumni Association held a congratulatory ceremony for alumnus winners of the 8th National Simultaneous Local Election in Daegu Grand Hotel at 6:00 pm on the 27th.


 In the 8th National Simultaneous Local Election held on the 1st, 101 YU alumni won including 1 metropolitan local government head, 1 superintendent, 16 basic local government heads, 23 metropolitan councilors, and 60 municipal councilors. In the by-election of National Assembly members held on the same day, alumnus LEE In-seon (Student ID 22 of Department of Food and Nutrition) run in Daegu Suseongeul was elected and entered National Assembly.


 LEE Cheol-woo (YU Graduate School CEO Course 06, hereinafter CEO), Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor, succeeded in reelection of metropolitan local government head and KANG Eun-hee (YU Graduate School CEO Course18) succeeded in serving consecutive terms of Daegu-si superintendent.Elected municipal councilors consist of RYU Han-kook Seo-gu Mayor (Administration 74), LEE Tae-hoon Dalseo-gu Mayor (Business Administration 75), RYU Gyu-ha Jung-gu Mayor (Pharmacy 75), BAE Gwang-sik Buk-gu Mayor (General Graduate School Master 82), JO Jae-gu Nam-gu Mayor (Graduate School of Business, Master 08), and KIM Dae-gwon Suseong-gu Mayor (CEO 18) in Daegu and SHIN Hyeon-kook Mungyeong-si Mayor (Food Science and Technology 70), CHOI Ki-moon Yeongcheon-si Mayor (Business Administration 71), KIM Jin-yeol Gunwi-gun Mayor (Stock Breeding 78), KANG Yeong-seok Sangju-si Mayor (Social Science 85), KWON Ki-chang Andong-si Mayor (General Graduate School Doctor 95), JO Hyeon-il Gyeongsan-si Mayor (Graduate School of Business, Master 10), LEE Nam-cheol Goryeong-gun Mayor (Graduate School of Administration, Master 19), KIM chung-seop Kimcheon-si Mayor ((Graduate School of Administration, Administrative Executive Program 11, hereinafter AEP), KIM Ha-su Dheongdo-gun Mayor (AEP 13), and NAM Han-kwon Ulleung-gun Mayor (CEO 04) in Gyeongbuk, etc.

 In the ceremony, YU alumni including Chairman YOON Dong-han of YU Alumni Association, Chairman HAN Jae-sook of Yeungnm School Corporation, President CHOI Oe-chool of YU, and Counselor KIM Kwan-yong of YU Alumni Association and key persons in political and business areas participated and congratulated their winning with transfer of congratulatory plaques and souvenirs.


 Chairman YOON Dong-han of Alumni Association said, “Activities of YU alumni working in various parts in the society shined in this local election, too. They showed that YU alumni are the leaders of Korea. All elected YU alumni write personal histories, school history, and Korean history. I, as the representative of 270,000 alumni, congratulate the elected alumni for raising honor of alma master and Alumni Association and for showing the pride of YU persons.”

 President CHOI Oe-chool said in his congratulatory message, “Korea is the only country in the world which was changed from a poorest country to an advanced country. The university which produced many leaders of such Korea is YU. I think that the alumni elected in this local election showed their power. I believe that the alumni selected with people’s trust will become the leader to lead Korea towards a classy advanced country. YU will do its best in cultivation of talents to contribute in the country and local societies and, furthermore, to human society and your changeless cheer is required.”


 YU produced 14 members in the 21st National Assembly Member Election held in 2020 and produced 21 persons (2 metropolitan councilors, 18 municipal councilors, and 1 superintendent) in 2018 Local Election showing the power of alumni in Korean politician society.
