Request for sharing education including opening of Department of Saemaul Economic Development and major in Korean language, etc.

Agreed in rapid practical exchange and cooperation between two universities through “Special Cooperation Committee”

<President Le Nguyen Bao of Duy Tân University of Vietnam suggests a plan for cooperation with YU>

Department of Saemaul will be opened in Duy Tân University, the highest level university in Vietnam.This is the 3rd country next to Philippine and Cambodia that Saemaul Studies, traditional Korean studies, is exported and as many as more than 10 universities of Southeastern Asia, Central Asia, Africa, and Central Latin America requested installation of Department of Saemaul to YU.

Duy Tân University was founded in 1994 in Danang, Vietnam.It is the largest private university in Vietnam which has about 32,000 students.Duy Tân University was evaluated as one of 401st-500th universities in 2023 World University Evaluation by Times Higher Education (THE) of GB, the highest level in Vietnamese universities, and was ranked 2nd in Vietnam in GB QS Asia University Rankings.

In the afternoon on the 17th, 19 high-level personnel and practical workers including Chief Director Le Cong Co, President Le Nguyen Bao, and Vice-President of Duy Tân University, professors and deans of major colleges, and main staff and personnel of personnel affairs, finance, and administration visited YU.They started aggressive actions for practical exchange with YU.

Chief Director Le Cong Co met President CHOI Oe-chool of YU on that day and said, “Cooperation between both countries has been growing in various social areas including economy through launch of business by large enterprises such as Samsung and LG in Vietnam. This is my 5th visit of Korea and is the 1st time for me to visit YU. I visited YU for exchange and cooperation in educational area for cultivation of both countries’ talents. I hope that my visit of YU is the starting point of regular exchange between both countries.”

President CHOI Oe-chool also started actions for exchange with Duy Tân University including installation of Department of Saemaul Economic Development. President CHOI Oe-chool opened a channel of practical exchange for both universities by delivering a special lecture in front of the visiting team of Duy Tân University.They had discussions on installation of Department of Saemaul Economic Development and execution of Korean major 2+2 double degree system in Duy Tân University.If Department of Saemaul Economic Development and execution of Korean major 2+2 double degree system are launched at the same time in the largest private university in Vietnam, it will become the base to share Vietnamese local education.

With installation of Department of Saemaul Economic Development in Duy Tân University, exchange will be expanded in various academic areas.During this visit of YU, agreements were made on exchanges of faculty and graduate school students and professors and joint researches, etc. between both universities.Both universities have a plan for rapid practical cooperation with Special Cooperation Committee (tentative name) for embodiment of details for practical exchange.

President CHOI Oe-chool said, “More than 9,000 Korean enterprises run their business in Vietnam and the exchange is active. Cultivation of talents through this academic exchange will become the foundation for overall exchange and cooperation by both countries including society, culture, and economy. YU will make active support for active exchange in various areas for both universities and for talent cultivation including installation of Department of Saemaul Economic Development. I hope both universities to gather energy for talent cultivation for joint prosperity of human society over talent cultivation to lead development of both countries.”

Meanwhile, YU and Vietnam have been implementing active cooperation projects for last 10 years. YU concluded an agreement with Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics in 2014 and suggested policies by conducting a study to compare Vietnamese new agricultural village programs with Korean Saemaul Undong in 2015. Also, YU provided education and regional administration system consulting for 762 public officers of Lao Cai Province, Vietnam through Regional Administrative Capability Strengthening Education Project from December 2014 to February 2018. This time is highly meaningful in the respect that two private universities of Korean and Vietnam cooperate in academic exchange and talent cultivation.
