 Yeungnam University(President Lee, Hyo-Soo) will invest 100 million US $ for 4 years to raise \'\'Y type talents\'\'.

 Yeungnam University held 62th anniversary ceremony and ‘Vision YU Glocal Initiative\'\' proclamation ceremony at Chunma Art Center chamber hall on 20th at 10:30 AM. Yeungnam University has explained ’Vision YU Glocal Initiative\'\' with an objective of entering \'\'domestic top 10\'\' in 2013 and entering \'\'world top 100\'\' in 2020 at this place.

 ‘YU Glocal Initiative\'\' is an objective of becoming a key local university of global standard playing the leading role in globalization of region and foundation of knowledge after securing global competitiveness of production of knowledge and raising talents. To make this possible, Yeungnam University is planning to promote top 3 objectives and top 7 strategies, 21 actions plans and 100 detailed tasks.

Top 3 objectives are ‘top 100 university of the world’, ‘key university of region’, ‘convergence research frontier’.

  Among them, the field Yeungnam University is placing the greatest main object on is becoming \'\'top 100 university of the world\'\' to create the knowledge having global competitiveness and supplying distinguished talents to global market. That\'\'s because in knowledge based society the source of university\'\'s and nation\'\'s competitive power is the people of talent. To make this possible, Yeungnam University is planning to invest 100 million US $ for 4 years from now with cultivating \'\'Y-type\'\' Human resources\'\'.

 Among 100 billion wons, 30 billion wons will be invested in education programs such as consolidation of basic education, strengthening of global capacity and leadership academy, etc. another 30 billion wons will be invested in optional type and custom type scholarship system such as \'\'Sharing scholarship\'\' for low income families or \'\'Glocal talent scholarship\'\'. The 28 billion wons will be invested in establishing a learning environment of highest standard for each academic fields and 12 billion wons will be invested in establishing Health University such as building multi-purpose ball game center, swimming pool and fitness center, operating no smoking & obesity clinic and building ECO-campus.  

New Establishment of International Graduate School, Raising the Third World Leaders

 Especially, in order to raise a true \'\'Glocal talents\'\', Yeungnam University is planning to promote in-bound globalization and out-bound globalization at the same time.

 Among them, the project that is placed with most emphasis is the new establishment of international graduate school which is under promotion with a goal of opening up for first semester of next year. The international graduate school to be newly established is planned to be specialized as a center to raise third world leader and next generation leaders. To make this possible,  Yeungnam University is planning to conclude an agreement with international organizations, targeted countries and main oversea agencies such as UN, UNDP and ASEAN, etc while raising it as a key point to spread Korean economic growth models such as \'\'Saemaeul Academics\'\' (provisional name) to the entire world.

 Besides, while providing video English lectures of prestigious universities worldwide on a real-time basis starting second half of this year, it is planning to make the entire campus as \'\'the miniature global village\'\' by also operating \'\'international house\'\' where Korean students and foreign students live together. It is also planning to hold \'\'Glocal Initiative Special Lectures\'\' by inviting Korean merchants who had succeeded in foreign countries in connection with \'\'The 10th World\'\'s Korean Merchant Contest\'\' confirmed to be held in Daegu next year.

Such As \'\'Major of Interdisciplinary study for Green energy\'\'

 Even in the field of Research, Yeungnam University has presented completely different strategy and paradigm as before. The \'\'global 10-3-10 strategy\'\' means placing top 10 in the world in 3 academic fields within 10 years. It is a strategy of being determined to accomplish predominant competitiveness in entire world after discovering new fields through \'\'convergence\'\' between academics which is not a specialized strategy of raising certain one field of academics.

 To make this possible, it is planning to discover 3 academic fields to be raised by emphasis from now on by promoting education and research of exchange between adjacent academics by adopting a custom type convergence major system like \'\'Major of Interdisciplinary study for Green energy\'\'.

 At the same time, while promoting convergence research atmosphere after new establishment of ‘CRC\'\'(Convergence Research Center) in the near future, it is planning to provide active support on receiving orders for government-supported large projects by  hiring large number of foreign teachers with excellent research ability and organizing the joint ’F/G‘(Focus Group) with Korean teachers.

Development of the Subway Station Area

 Yeungnam University will also spread a bold profitable businesses for the epochal improvement of university\'\'s financial structure. Especially, it is planning to develop one entire main gate area into large scale station area (provisional name \'\'Chunma Plaza\'\') based on Yeungnam Station facing the opening of subway line 2 in 2011. To make this possible, it is planning to give shape to the construction concept called \'\'fine brand university village\'\' after forming sympathy within school by opening up a public hearing at the second half of this year. In addition it is planning to make creation of stable profit structure official such as establishing a technology holding company. Besides, Yeungnam University will also promote practical projects for establishing the innovation university administration system, building of B.E.S.T(Beautiful, Enjoyable, Sustainable, Topmost) campus, and inspiring member\'\'s pride.

 President Lee, Hyo-Soo promised that \"I\'\'ll make this become recorded as a successful example showing what a university shsould be doing and how it should be done in a knowledge based society through a audacious innovation\" by saying \"to prevent from stopping at a mere slogan, I have prepared 21 action plans and 100 detailed tasks very specifically.\"
