11:55 a.m., February 25, Seongdeok Training Institute auditorium in Yeongcheon. On the second day of 'Saeteo' (the new student orientation), the freshmen class of 2013 in the YU College of Liberal Arts had an unexpected visit from the special guest.
The surprise visitor was YU President Noh, Seok Kyun. Since his appointed to YU president on February 1, he wanted to meet his first new freshmen as soon as possible.
President Noh took the podium in front of over 600 freshmen in the College of Liberal Arts and said, "2013 will be remembered as a very special year to both you and me. This is the year that I start as the president of YU and for you, as students of YU. Here and today is where we first met and for the next four years, we will work together for a better future. This is truly a valuable relationship. I will always remember this overwhelming feeling that I am experiencing as I meet you."
President Noh also stated, "Literature, History and Philosophy that you will major in is the most fundamental starting point of all academic disciplines. I hope that you make the most out of your university life in this day of age where character and culture has become more important than ever, as you find the path you want to take for your life, while establishing your own set of values." He also added with promise, "I hope that you work hard to make your 4 years in YU the happiest and most enjoyable time of your life, and I will also do my best as the president of the university."
